Immunotherapy in Cancer Care

Module Outline

This module explores the principles, mechanisms, and clinical applications of immunotherapy in cancer care. It supports registered health professionals to develop advanced knowledge and skills to recognise, assess, and manage immune-related toxicities. Learners will build the confidence and expertise to lead and innovate within their area of immunotherapy practice. Through engagement with current evidence, patient experience and clinical expertise, this module enhances clinical reasoning and supports the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred, multidisciplinary immunotherapy services.

Aligned with the national ACCEND framework (Aspirant Cancer Career and Education Development), this module also supports your professional development journey toward enhanced, advanced, and consultant-level roles in cancer care.

Demonstrate a critical understanding of the immunological basis of cancer and the mechanisms underpinning various immunotherapeutic approaches.
Critically Analyse and interpret current research and clinical guidelines related to immunotherapy, including emerging treatments, innovations and toxicity management.
Critically evaluate the impact of immunotherapy on patient outcomes, including side effect profiles, quality of life, and survivorship, and analyse strategies to reduce the burden of symptoms relating to immune mediated adverse reactions.
Apply advanced clinical reasoning to support safe and effective delivery of immunotherapy within multidisciplinary cancer care settings.
Reflect on ethical, legal, and professional considerations in the administration and development of immunotherapy services to ensure a focus on patient centered care and collaborative working.
